And so it begins

Technically, one could say my season began in January in pursuit of White Perch.

However, Saturday I finally unfroze in the 70+F weather, and Sunday, while a chilly, damp day at the shore, I went over to start the process of installing a new machine for back waters:

More on the installation later.

"They" sometimes call these things "fishfinders".  Truth is, in the hands of an experienced captain, certainly one can discern certain types of fish, usually by schools, location etc.

However, in my case, it really is a structure finder. I use this in the back bay to stay at certain water depths, or on the edge of channels or other bottom structure where fish should hold.

Had an old Hummingbird that served well for 3 years, but the cable at the head end was shot, electrically was compromised by water infusion and exposure, so it was time to upgrade.

A good feature of this unit will be the ability to mark a spot, what with it's built in GPS, and that will allow us to go back to a hot edge on those days when fish are sitting right on a particular piece of structure.

In theory, anyways :)
