Meeting Notes: September 9, 2024

Joe Ricciardi called the meeting to order with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence.

Fish Tales:

Tony Leone went out with Lou for fluke. Tony with his gulp and special rig caught 4 Fluke before Lou had any.  Together they caught about a dozen, all shorts.  Dave Burke took his family out for perch.  He said they had a good perch catch in the Mullica and also had other species.  Charlie Elwell took his wife out and she caught a 6 plus flounder.  He went out at another time by himself and limited out.  Joe Ricciardi was out trolling on a friend’s boat.  They trolled for hours and only wound up with a few Bonita.  Joe Poley went to New York State for some fresh water fishing and had one salmon on the hook but lost it.  Rich Oeser went out fishing with Lou.  It was a hard wind out of the N/E and a fast current and they wound up with 4 shorts.  Rich also went out with Chas Elwell.  Brian Braudis told his story of fishing in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska and also in the Kenai River, lots of fish and beautiful scenery.

Communications:

Facebook: Group communications have been good. Keep it up!

Federation of Sportsmen: Dave Burke gave a report regarding the Delaware Water Gap, there is a group of conservationists that would like to change it from a national forest to a national park.  They feel there would be more federal money to improve it, however doing that would restrict certain activities such as hunting and some fishing.  Dave also reported that the nj division of fish and wildlife held classes for trapping and butchering. Tony Zaryck was at the last Federation meeting to report about the A.C. kids fishing tournament that he handles.  Also that the Barnegat decoy show will be held the weekend of Sept 28 and 29.  NJOA will be holding the Ed Markowski sporting clays shoot on oct 12 at Red Wing in Port Republic.   Dave Burkes also wanted to share information about deer meat donations to the federation for the annual dinner.  The donations will be handled by the following people:  Chuck Palomino 609-204-5762, Gary Gandolfi 609-432-5252 and Paul Glenn 609-576-0168.
